August: A time to slow and be gentle with yourself

"August is the slow, gentle month that stretches out the longest across the span of a year."

The Reiki Room Mow Cop August Newsletter

August 2026 | Issue 08

Welcome August

"August is the slow, gentle month that stretches out the longest across the span of a year"

Just as the sun reaches its full strength, we too are invited to slow down and be gentle with yourself

Sunshine has a remarkable way of lifting our spirits. Its warmth reminds us that healing doesn't always come through dramatic changes, it often arrives quietly, through moments of peace, kindness, rest, and connection. When we open ourselves to the light, we create space for hope, clarity, and emotional renewal.

At The Reiki Room, we believe everyone deserves to feel that gentle slow pace, even on the busiest of days. Whether you're seeking Reiki, relaxation, emotional balance, or simply a peaceful place to pause and recharge, we're here to help brighten your day and restore your sense of wellbeing.

This August, let the warmth of the season inspire you to care for yourself as deeply as you care for others. Step into the light, embrace the healing energy around you, and remember, you don't have to walk your journey alone.

So in August let us slow, let us be gentle and allow the month to stretch slowly and gently.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Reiki Room, where together we can nurture your inner light and help it shine a little brighter.

Why choose The Reiki Room

 A Truly Holistic Approach

Unlike many wellness centres that specialise in just one therapy, The Reiki Room offers a carefully curated range of complementary treatments, events, training and retreats. Whether you're seeking relaxation, emotional balance, spiritual development, or simply time to recharge, there is a pathway designed to meet you where you are. Treatments include Reiki, sound healing, crystal healing, tarot, manual lymphatic drainage, shamanic practices, meditation, and bespoke wellness packages, allowing sessions to be tailored to your individual needs.

Decades of Experience

Both myself and Julie have dedicated many years to studying and practising a broad range of holistic therapies. Rather than following trends, they continue to train and develop their knowledge so clients benefit from both traditional wisdom and modern approaches to wellbeing. Their courses are researched, written and delivered personally, reflecting genuine expertise rather than off-the-shelf training.

More Than Just Treatments

Many people come for a treatment and stay for the community. Throughout the year, The Reiki Room hosts:

  • Gong Baths

  • Crystal Bowl Sound Baths

  • Drum Journeys

  • Women's Circles

  • Cacao Ceremonies

  • Meditation Evenings

  • Seasonal Celebrations

  • Wellness Retreats across the UK

  • Accredited Holistic Training

This creates opportunities to continue your wellness journey long after your first appointment.

A Beautiful Setting

Nestled in the peaceful surroundings of Mow Cop, on the Cheshire and Staffordshire border, The Reiki Room provides a calm sanctuary away from the pace of everyday life. Being close to the iconic Mow Cop Castle and countryside allows visitors to begin unwinding before they even walk through the door.

A Personal Experience

Every client is treated as an individual. Rather than offering a "one size fits all" appointment, Julie and Sean take the time to understand what you need and often combine therapies to create a bespoke healing experience.

Learn as Well as Receive

Many wellness centres stop at treatments. The Reiki Room also offers accredited training for those wishing to deepen their own healing or begin a professional holistic career. Courses are accredited by the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine and range from Usui Reiki to all levels including teacher and Crystal Healing to Sound Healing, Aromatherapy and Energy Frequency & Vibration.

A Safe, Welcoming Community

Whether you're completely new to holistic therapies or have been on your spiritual journey for years, you'll find an inclusive and supportive environment. There is no expectation to believe anything in particular, only an invitation to relax, explore and experience.

Why People Keep Coming Back

Many visitors become regular clients because they appreciate:

  • A warm, family-run atmosphere.

  • A wide choice of therapies under one roof.

  • Experienced practitioners with genuine passion.

  • Beautiful seasonal events and retreats.

  • High-quality accredited training.

  • A peaceful setting that encourages real relaxation.

Your Wellness Journey Starts Here

At The Reiki Room Mow Cop, wellbeing isn't treated as a luxury, it's seen as an investment in yourself. Whether you need a single hour of calm, ongoing support, a transformative retreat, or the skills to begin your own healing practice, you'll find knowledgeable guidance, compassionate care and a welcoming community dedicated to helping you restore balance in mind, body and spirit.

As our guiding philosophy says:

"Give your Soul the Freedom to Heal."

Simple Practices to Help Heal in August

August naturally invites us to slow down. The long days, warm evenings and abundance in nature make it an ideal month to focus on gentle, restorative practices rather than striving or pushing. Holistic healing is often about creating small daily rituals that nourish your mind, body and spirit.

Here are some simple practices to embrace throughout August:

Morning Sunlight

Spend 10–15 minutes outside within the first hour of waking. Breathe deeply, stretch gently and allow the morning light to help regulate your body clock and lift your mood.

Nature Walks

Take a mindful walk in the countryside, a local park or woodland. Leave your phone in your pocket and notice five things you can see, hear, smell and feel.

Stay Hydrated

Add slices of lemon, cucumber or fresh mint to your water. Hydration supports energy levels, digestion and mental clarity.

Five Minutes of Stillness

Begin or end your day with a few minutes of quiet meditation. Simply focus on your breath and allow your thoughts to drift by without judgement.

Ground Yourself

Walk barefoot on grass, sand or earth for a few minutes each day if it's safe to do so. Many people find this helps them feel calmer and more connected with nature.

Gratitude Journaling

Each evening, write down three things that brought you joy or made you smile during the day.

Eat Seasonal Foods

Enjoy August's colourful produce such as berries, tomatoes, courgettes, peaches and leafy greens. Fresh, seasonal foods provide nourishment and encourage mindful eating.

Let Go Ritual

Write down worries, limiting beliefs or habits you're ready to release. Safely burn or tear up the paper as a symbolic act of letting go before autumn arrives.

 Sound Healing

Spend time listening to relaxing music, crystal singing bowls, gongs or nature sounds to encourage deep relaxation.

Reiki Self-Healing

If you're Reiki attuned, spend 15–20 minutes each day giving yourself Reiki, focusing on areas where you feel tension or emotional heaviness.

Connect with the Full Moon

Use the Full Moon as a time to reflect on what you've achieved and what you're ready to release before the seasons begin to change.

Watch a Sunrise or Sunset

Take a moment to pause and appreciate the beauty of the changing sky. It's a simple reminder to slow down and be present.

Declutter One Small Space

Choose one drawer, cupboard or shelf each week. Creating space in your surroundings often helps create space in your mind.

Acts of Kindness

Smile at a stranger, check in on a friend, or offer help without expecting anything in return. Kindness is healing for both the giver and the receiver.

Prioritise Rest

August is not just for adventures, it's also a wonderful time to honour your need for rest. Allow yourself permission to slow down and recharge.

Attend a Wellness Event

Join a Gong bath, Meditation, Drum circle, Women's circle or Reiki session.

Healing alongside others can deepen your sense of connection and wellbeing.

August affirmation

"I honour the gentle rhythm of August. I choose rest without guilt, joy without rush, and healing with every breath. I welcome peace into my mind, strength into my body, and light into my spirit."

August with The Reiki Room

We are following our own advice and slowing down gently in August.

Both our boys are away from school and university and so next week we are taking them back to my fatherland, the land of our ancestors, Ireland.

Of course, it will not all be play, we will be doing a little training also with a visit to Saint Brigid of Kildare, one of Ireland's three patron saints, alongside Saint Patrick and Saint Columba. She is loved not only as a Christian abbess and founder of monasteries, but also as a figure whose story bridges early Christianity and older Celtic traditions. Because of this, she is revered by Christians, historians, and many people following modern Celtic spirituality, especially Julie.

So please mark your calendars for these transformative opportunities to deepen your practice and connect with our community.

All of our upcoming 2026 Treatments, Retreats, Events and Training can be found on our website at www.thereikiroommowcop.co.uk

"Whats on in August"

We have something a little different in August mixed with some of our more usual offerings.

The month starts as we mean it to on on with our Summer day retreat at Mow Cop Community Hall on Sunday offering a chance to leave the world outside and to slow down and be gentle with yourself.

And then it just gets slower and slower with our signature Gong Bath with Hands on Reiki, our Crystal Bowl duet, yes we are still talking after our very first one.

And we also invite you to join us for our Reiki Rising event.

The Power of a Women’s Spiritual Circle

A women’s spiritual circle is a sacred gathering where women come together to connect, reflect, and grow in a safe and supportive space.

What Happens in a Circle?

  • Guided meditation or visualisation

  • Breathwork or grounding exercises

  • Journaling and reflection

  • Intention setting

Blog: The Rise of Holistic Living in the UK

Why More People Are Choosing a Natural Path to Wellbeing

There has never been a greater desire for people to reconnect with themselves, slow down, and find a healthier way of living. Across the UK, holistic living has moved from being a niche interest to becoming an increasingly popular lifestyle embraced by people of all ages and backgrounds.

From village wellness centres to city yoga studios, meditation groups, sound healing events and natural therapies, more people are discovering that true wellbeing is about far more than simply treating illness. It is about creating balance between the mind, body and spirit.

What Does Holistic Living Mean?

The word holistic comes from the idea that every part of us is connected. Rather than focusing on a single symptom, holistic living looks at the whole person and how our physical health, emotional wellbeing, mental state, lifestyle and environment all influence one another.

Holistic living doesn't necessarily mean rejecting modern medicine. Instead, many people choose to complement conventional healthcare with practices that encourage relaxation, self-awareness and healthier daily habits.

For some, holistic living starts with eating more nourishing food. For others, it may begin through meditation, Reiki, breathwork, yoga, spending time in nature or simply learning how to slow down.

Why Is Holistic Living Becoming So Popular?

Over the past decade, and particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have reassessed what truly matters.

Long working hours, constant digital connection and increasing levels of stress have encouraged many to search for ways of improving their overall quality of life.

People are increasingly recognising the importance of:

  • Managing stress before it becomes overwhelming.

  • Prioritising sleep and rest.

  • Spending more time outdoors.

  • Building meaningful community connections.

  • Developing mindfulness and emotional resilience.

  • Creating a healthier work-life balance.

Rather than waiting until something goes wrong, many are adopting wellness practices as part of everyday life.

A Return to Ancient Wisdom

Many holistic therapies have been practised for hundreds, and in some cases thousands, of years.

Practices such as Reiki, meditation, herbal remedies, sound healing, breathwork and energy-based traditions have deep cultural roots across Japan, India, China and many indigenous communities around the world.

Today these ancient practices are finding a new audience in the UK as people seek gentle, restorative experiences that fit alongside modern life.

The Importance of Community

One of the most beautiful aspects of holistic living is the sense of connection it creates.

Across the country, wellness circles, meditation evenings, cacao ceremonies, sound baths, drumming circles and holistic workshops are bringing people together in ways that feel welcoming and inclusive.

In a world where loneliness has become increasingly common, many people discover that simply sharing space with like-minded individuals can have a profound effect on their wellbeing.

Nature as Our Greatest Healer

Holistic living encourages us to reconnect with the natural world.

Whether it's walking through woodland, sitting beside the sea, watching a sunrise or enjoying the peaceful countryside, spending time in nature has become an essential part of many people's wellbeing routines.

Living close to places of natural beauty reminds us to pause, breathe and appreciate the slower rhythms of life.

Everyday Holistic Practices

Holistic living doesn't require dramatic lifestyle changes. Small, consistent habits often make the biggest difference.

Simple practices include:

  • Beginning the day with gratitude.

  • Spending ten minutes in quiet meditation.

  • Taking mindful walks without your phone.

  • Drinking enough water.

  • Enjoying nourishing, seasonal food.

  • Practising gentle movement such as yoga or stretching.

  • Keeping a journal.

  • Receiving regular holistic treatments.

  • Making time for proper rest.

These simple rituals help create moments of calm within busy lives.

Holistic Therapies Continue to Grow

The UK has seen increasing interest in therapies including:

  • Reiki Healing

  • Sound Healing

  • Crystal Healing

  • Gong Baths

  • Breathwork

  • Meditation

  • Aromatherapy

  • Indian Head Massage

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage

  • Mindfulness Coaching

  • Women's Circles

  • Drum Meditation

Many people report that these experiences help them feel calmer, more balanced and better able to cope with the demands of everyday life. Individual experiences vary, and complementary therapies are generally used alongside, not instead of, appropriate medical care.

The Future of Wellbeing

As awareness continues to grow, holistic living is becoming less about following a trend and more about creating sustainable habits that support long-term wellbeing.

People are recognising that health isn't simply the absence of illness, it is feeling energised, emotionally balanced, connected and able to enjoy life.

Whether someone begins with a single Reiki treatment, attends a sound bath, joins a meditation circle or simply spends more time outdoors, every positive step contributes towards a healthier, happier life.

Finding Your Own Path

There is no single way to live holistically.

For some, it is meditation. For others, it is gardening, walking in nature, receiving Reiki, practising yoga or simply making more time for family and rest.

The most important step is finding what nourishes you and making space for it regularly.

At The Reiki Room, nestled in the peaceful surroundings of Mow Cop beneath the iconic castle, we are passionate about helping people discover those moments of peace, healing and reconnection. Whether you're exploring holistic wellbeing for the first time or deepening an established practice, our treatments, workshops, sound baths, Reiki training and community events provide a welcoming space to relax, learn and grow.

Holistic living isn't about striving for perfection. It's about living with greater awareness, kindness and balance—one mindful step at a time.
