Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system, helping it move lymph fluid more efficiently around the body. Unlike traditional massage, MLD uses light, precise movements because the lymphatic vessels sit just beneath the surface of the skin.

The lymphatic system plays an important role in maintaining fluid balance, supporting the immune system, and removing waste products from the body's tissues. When lymph flow becomes sluggish, fluid can build up, leading to swelling, heaviness, or discomfort.

How can MLDM help!

Manual Lymphatic Drainage may help to:

  • Reduce swelling and fluid retention.

  • Support recovery after surgery or injury (when appropriate and approved by your healthcare provider).

  • Ease feelings of heaviness or puffiness.

  • Encourage relaxation by calming the nervous system.

  • Improve circulation of lymphatic fluid, which supports the body's natural waste removal processes.

  • Help relieve symptoms associated with certain conditions that affect the lymphatic system, such as lymphoedema, when performed as part of a prescribed treatment plan.

  • Many people also choose MLD as part of their general wellness routine because of its deeply relaxing nature.

  • Potential for emotional release:

As the energetic centers are cleansed and balanced, some individuals may experience emotional releases or heightened awareness.

  • No known serious side effects:

The Munay-Ki is considered a gentle and non-invasive practice, and there are no known serious side effects.

  • Respect for indigenous traditions:

The rites of the Munay-Ki are stripped of all traces of the indigenous cultures they come from, to respect the native traditions and avoid the idea that persons from the West can become traditional shamans or Indians.

  • What is Munay-Ki?

The Munay-Ki is a system of rites that aims to activate dormant abilities and heal energetic imbalances.

  • Focus on energetic healing:

Munay-Ki focuses on cleansing, rebalancing, and attuning the energetic centres (chakras) of the body.

How will I feel afterwards!

Most people leave an MLD treatment feeling deeply relaxed, lighter, and less puffy. You may notice that any swelling has reduced and that your body feels less heavy or tight.

Because the treatment encourages the movement of lymphatic fluid, you may find that you need to urinate more frequently for the rest of the day. Some people also feel pleasantly tired or sleepy afterwards, while others experience a gentle boost in energy.

To get the most from your treatment, it's recommended to drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous exercise for the remainder of the day if possible, and allow your body time to rest and continue its natural recovery processes.

Everyone responds differently, but the effects are typically gentle, calming, and restorative.
